Clay is great, either the kind that hardens or the oil-based variety that
can be re-used indefinitely. You can make wonderful art materials with
flour and water and salt. Collages can be made with cut-outs or all sorts
of found objects such as leaves, pebbles, acorns, fabric scraps, yarn,
feathers, etc. Most three-dimensional projects can work well for sighted
kids, too, so if the teacher is flexible, the blind child can be included in
projects that involve the whole class.

Subject: [blindkid] First-grade art
Sent from my iPhoneI have a friend who is an art teacher in the public
school and this year she has a blind student. What suggestions might you
amazing folks have to make art meaningful for her. The child has scented
markers. I suggested wicky-sticks for outlining pictures -- and glue. I
suggested using different textures for different colored paper and if they
paint to put textures in the different colors. What other ideas could give
her?
Barbara
