Hello everyone,

In case you are not aware, the National Braille Press has a fantastic
seminew program called Great Expectations. The program is designed to
encourage parents and teachers of blind children to help picture books come
to life. The program is meant for children in pre school through grade 3 or
4. Although many of the activities could be fun and interesting for older
children as well. The newest book in this program is pete the Cat Rockin' In
My School Shoes. This is also the September book club selection if anyone is
a book club member. When you order the book, or receive it from the book
club, you will receive a fun tactile activity to get your brain and fingers
moving. Then, if you visit

http://greatexpectations.pub

you will find activities on tactile map making, tactile mazes, a Find Pete
scavenger hunt, a shoe tying craft and a new technique to help kids learn to
tie their shoes, and so much more. There's even a fun Pete the Cat song, and
some very kid friendly jokes.

The other two books in the Great Expectations program are Dragons Love
Tacos, and The Day the Crayons Quit. If you all ready own these books, you
can find a variety of other activities related to these stories on the Great
Expectations website. You can also order all of the books from the website
in case you missed them.

I think this program is tons of fun for teachers, parents, and kids alike. I
encourage you to check it out. And, please pass this resource along to
others.
