My apologies to the group for replying to all.  Dr. Robinson - Yes, unfortunately my director has actually directly ignored me. I have recently gained her attention and she is now willing to discuss including your services.  My daughter is a senior and eager to learn. I will email you directly this time :)   Thank you,Juli

Juli and other parents

The big problem with parents paying for services the school should be providing is you give up FAPE and relinquish the school from responsibility of educating your child--that adds in so many other really bad options---parents who did not know this will tell you. Did you call director or walk directly into the sped directors office? It is difficult to ignore a parent when you are right there.

The schools have to be changed--the warning you can give to other parents is--this needs to start at 3 or as soon as you realize the TVI you have does not have the necessary skills --and tech is the big one as many do know braille now due to braille bills--but the tech is not taught at the university level so they do not have it. The computer WITH instruction--access is not access without instruction and is what is going to give your child the ability to access any part of their education college and get that job.

I have many parents who have taken the route to get services for their kids and if you would like, will share their information with their permission.

Hi Juli, I?m a parent of a now graduated HS blind student, who?s been down the path of getting services and specially computer skills so needed for success in life.
I?m happy to share our journey and how I got approval for tech skills with Dr Robinson who has drastically changed my child?s outcome!!! And can?t stress enough what a difference this made in my daughter?s life.
I?m available, if you like email me. Had I known what I know now our journey would have been a lot easier.

Heidi
