Dr. Waters,

Brief responses follow:

Yes, you still need to take the exam unless you apply to a law school that has made the LSAT optional.

In order to prepare non-visually, you should develop a way to do the logic games. This has been challenging for many individuals without sight, but the fundamental idea depends on your using a non-visual technique whereby you can perform real-time spatial manipulations. For example, you have to decide who sits at a table. Some conditions are given to you; other conditions change, and you have to solve the seating chart based on both sets of conditions, with the ability to go to the next problem and a new condition or conditions at play. I personally used a Braille note taker and moved Braille configurations. Others have used Excel. Just find a method that you can use quickly and accurately. This will probably involve some experimentation, so consulting old tests, available at LSAC, can give you a flavor for what the logic games entail. The other sections are not nearly as anxiety-inducing.

Once you have a way to tackle the logic games, prep is taking as many practice tests under timed conditions as you can. LSAC has many prior tests, though I am forgetting their format--HTML, PDF or something else. They should be accessible with a screen reader.

In order to build or practice the skills for each section, complete the three Power Score books. These offer actual LSAT problems. Other test prep books do not offer real problems, so they are not a good reflection of the LSAT.

As for courses, I do not know. Others here may have better ideas. I hired an independent tutor for 4-5 sessions and was fine. Happy to send you the tutor's contact details off list if that would be helpful. He was great, and he can also review your law school application.

Regards,
Nikki

Subject: [blindLaw] Questions regarding Law School admission

[EXTERNAL]

Questions regarding Law School admissions.

I am a Physician, with 30 years clinical experience. Due to an accident 7 years ago I am totally blind . I finished my Undergraduate Degree 39 years ago. My future endeavor is to pursue a career as a Lawyer, in the health or disability fields. In order to apply to a Law School, I have several questions.

My Questions are: 1. With my experience, do I need to take the LSAT

2. If I need to take the exam, how does a person without vision prepare for the exam?

3. Are there Prep. Courses that adapt for loss of vision?

Thank you in advance for your attention to these questions,

Mike
