[Blindmath] Replacement for Windows Calculator

Hi,

Yes, Excel is a good suggestion, but like I stated in a previous post, I
would like to try something which launches as quickly as Notepad--even with
a hotkey. :)

Again, while on the phone, or in daily computing, I want to quickly process
mathematical information while it is fresh in my short term memory, the
longer I wait for an application such as Excel to launch, the more likely it
will be that I will forget long numbers or long lists of numbers. As is,
Excel doesn't take more than about 5 seconds to launch on my computer, but
when one is calculating various things per day, 5 seconds seems like
forever. :)

I guess to be more specific, I'm looking for the following features in a
calculator:
Lightweight and nimble when launching to then enter numerical information
Ability to review and edit anything previously entered per session
Easy access to various often used calculator functions
Lots of slots for memory
Ability to save calculator session (not a hard requirement)
Feature to quickly and easily convert to and from various units of
measurement. (I don't like the way Windows calculator does it)
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions.

If such a beast exists, please let me know. <Smile>.

JR

I very often use excel for relatively simple math, and of course
spreadsheets. One advantage of this is you can easily save and review past
calculations if you'd like. I'm not completely sure if the Windows
calculator does all this, or if it does some additional tasks.
Best,
Trevor

You might also consider using one of the many fre maths or stats packages.
Octave, Maxima, and R for starters.

I haven't used anything but R for even the most simple calculations for over
five years. If your future involves more maths than stats, then Octave is
probably a better option though.

You could always resort to EXCEL of course.

If you have internet access you can use Google calculator. Just type your
expressions in the search box.
