Hello Timothy,

I have no knowledge of any practical way to access UML diagrams. You may have to persuade your instructors to accept text-based descriptions showing the concepts behind these diagrams.

At
http://access2science.com/indexAccessibility.html
there is a heading entitled
Graphics Topics
Which describes computer diagram reading and generation tools.

At the site
http://www.aph.org/graphiti
the Graphiti accessible graphics display is described. This display is not a released product.

I do not think that there are any practical blind-access tools available for code planning and generation.

Subject: [BlindMath] Creating Jaws and NVDA Accessible UML and ER Diagrams

hi, I am a blind computer science major. I am a screenreader user, primarily using Jaws and NVDA interchangeably.

I am taking two classes this quarter, design patterns and relational databases, that I need to be able to create diagrams for. In my Design patterns class, I am learning UML, which is a pictorial language used for object oriented software design. My relational databases class will be covering ER diagrams, which are used for modeling relational databases. From my understanding, the diagram sin tax for UML and ER diagrams is similar.

I am looking for a solution to be able to create and read these diagrams. I am looking for a solution, specifically for the UML diagrams, that is long term, that I could potentially use in the workforce.

I have done some searching, but have not found much on software that is accessible and can do what I need it to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or have experience with dealing with createing one or both of these types of diagrams.

Thanks,

TJ Breitenfeldt
