The City of Vancouver began work on the Westside Bike Mobility Project in
May 2018. The goal of the project is to establish a multimodal network of
north-south Complete Streets(External link)
<https://www.cityofvancouver.us/ced/page/complete-streets> to serve the
west side of Vancouver (neighborhoods and business districts located west
of Interstate 5).

Starting August 2019, the City will engage west side neighborhoods and
businesses in examining individual potential Complete Street corridors and
identifying a set of improvements that will increase safety and enhance
mobility for all users.

This phase of the project will focus specifically on Columbia, Washington,
Daniels and Franklin streets.

The City has formed a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) that will consider
the benefits and tradeoffs of different options, including safety,
accessibility, mobility, neighborhood livability and parking. The CAC will
help shape a recommendation to Vancouver City Council about the project.

The CAC has 17 members and is comprised of diverse stakeholders, including
residents living on or around the four streets, members of neighborhood
associations and coalitions, business owners, community organization
representatives, members of existing City boards and commissions,
pedestrians, cyclists and public transit riders.

As part of the continued public engagement for the Westside Bike Mobility
Project, the project team will host several events in January 2020 where
you can learn about the six route options being considered. The route
options include sections of Columbia Street, Daniels Street, Franklin
Street, and Washington Street.

Join us for an open house to learn more about the benefits, tradeoffs, and
impacts of each route option, including potential on-street parking removal
and safety improvements for people traveling in the corridors.

Everyone is welcome to participate in this opportunity. All feedback
received will be included in the final recommendation and community
engagement report that will be presented to City Council on February 3.

In addition to this opportunity, the project team is hosting coffee talks
as well as an online open house and presentations with neighborhood
associations and other community groups.

Please visit the online open house on the Be Heard Vancouver Web page
throughout the month of January to view corridor concepts and provide
feedback. You can also visit the project website at any time for more
information.

Amy and I have been making sure that the bike route will not
negatively impact the disabled.

I feel like the Daniels/Washington route would be the best compromise for
cyclist, neighbors, and community.

Please try to come to one of the open houses to learn more about the
different routes that are proposed; and leave a comment on the
community page.
