I just got some very disturbing news at our management meeting this afternoon. DVR unexpectedly had a total of 11 positions cut by the legislature via HB200 CD1 and my understanding is that the list now moves to the Governor. Ho’opono has been disproportionately affected with 5 vacant positions cut as follows:

New Visions Program

15293 – O&M Instructor

17679 – Secretary

51815 – Rehabilitation Teacher for the Blind - Braille Instructor

Employment Section (BEP/Blind Vending Program)

120754 – Temp Vending Facility Specialist

120667 – Temp Account Clerk

I am sharing this information so that if you wish, you could advocate for our positions to the Governor and DHS Director as soon as possible. I truly understand the power of blind consumer organizations so I am reaching out to you, and praying for a miracle. If these positions are lost, blind people will be severely impacted Statewide. Please let me know if you should need any further information from me.
