Hello Janice & All:
When I took exams in Florida for licensure and for state laws in 1992 the
only option was for the use of a reader/scribe. I did not like it, but at
that time the exams were not computer based. It was a pain, but doing it
that way got the job done.
I continue to use a reader for reading hand-written forms and other
job-related chores. Perhaps someday hand writting will be readible by
computers, but readers continue to be a part of my professional life. At
some tasks a reader continues to be favorable to me over computer
reading of patient materials, a good reader can skip, skim, and locate, say
an insurance company name, faster and friendlier.
However, I did sue, along with the NFB, for accessable voting in Volusia
County Florida, setting a national presidant.
