Janice,

As the Co-chair of the policy & law Committee, I can tell you the
Human Services Division has been working on the issue of accessible
licensing examination since the new administration took office. Our national
office and its legal counsel have also been involved. Because we have had
only social workers and psychologists having this issue, this is where we
have been able to focus our attention. In fact, our president did send a
message a few weeks ago seeking mental health counselors interested in
taking the NCE with no response. Now that we have a mental health counselor
with standing, we have the ability to pursue this field, as well.

Please keep us abreast of the responses you get and keep good
records of the dates, times, and people with whom you speak. Good
record-keeping is vital to resolving this issue should our counsel need to
get involved. If you have any questions, please feel free to write to me
directly, as President Schoch's computer is in the shop for a few days.

Fraternally yours,
Marion Gwizdala

Subject: [humanser] National Counseling Examination Accommodation

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the list. I have a Master's in Psychology with an specialty in
counseling. I have registered for the National Counseling Examination (NCE)
with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and I am waiting to
hear from them when I can take the exam.

They told me that since I requested the use of a computer with JAWS to use
my Braille Display and FM System (I am Deaf-Blind) that they will need to
find a University that will allow me to take the exam rather than the usual
sites they have arranged for the tests.

Have anyone had difficulties with getting accommodations for the NCE
examination?

At this point, I am going to have to ask for an extension from the Maryland
Board of Professional Counselor and Therapists (BOPC) who issued me my
eligibility letter for the examination because it expired in the end of
March.
