Hi,
When I interviewed for my first internship, one thing that I really had going for me was previous volunteer experience. My interviewers saw that I had taken the initiative to gain relevant experience outside any academic requirements. I realize this is not always possible with scheduling conflicts, but it goes a long way to displaying your capabilities. Many people have complimented me on my resume even though I have not even participated in my field experiences for my new major in social work, as I have sought every available opportunity to engage in community service outside my academic requirements. I do not say this with a proud or arrogant tone, but simply to stress how valuable volunteering and community service can be. Your supervisors in these roles can be valuable references. Also, I try to go over any possible accommodation needs on my own prior to the interview and come up with my own solutions to present. For me, it is a matter of being very self-aware and proactive. Many times, my initiative eases the minds of agency personnel. I have found this to also be true in the aforementioned volunteer positions.
I hope this helps, and have a wonderful week!

Best wishes, Miranda

In working with VR, some degrees they automatically view the field as a program in which a graduate degree is necessary. I have found that if I provided good justification and letters from professionals who provided justifiable reasons for the additional schooling, that Vr would be supportive. I attend Peabody College of Vanderbilt, an Ivy school with a very competitive HOD Clinical Counseling program. I was one of 23 accepted into the program last year. I think what helped me was establishing a good relationship with my counselor and providing several reverences from credible resources as to the need to continue my education. I hope that things work out for you and your situation!

What were some unforeseen situations you encountered? What techniques did you use to be successful in your interviewing and site placement? Any insight and input would be greatly appreciated.
