I'm learnin Narrator. For now, I'll use it as a backup when JAWS stops
workin. Ultimately, I'd like to use Narrator as asellin point. That is, no
one needs to spend a thousand dollars on proprietary software.

Hi Rebecca,

I have very low vision, I have both Magic and Jaws. However I use Magic as a
back-up since I need a 20 magnification. What I would suggest is see how
much of your paperwork (forms) you can get computerized, then I would
probably start learning a screen reader like Jaws. I learned on Jaws when I
lost my sight so I can't tell you how good or bad other screen readers. I
will tell you that narrator has come a long way so if you are working on a
Windows computer you might start by playing around with narrator, I found it
to be similar to Jaws when I was having computer problems.
I hope this helped a little bit, if you want to talk more you can email me
off list at yvonne625 at verizon.net.

Good luck,
Yvonne

Subject: [humanser] Vision declining

Hi all,

I currently work as a mental health and substance abuse counselor in
training. I have progressive Conrad dystrophy. I am noticing that my vision
is actually declining. I am worried about how this will impact my ability to
complete my job, specifically around completing paperwork.

How do others complete paperwork efficiently? I currently use magic screen
magnification and reader. I am not sure if I need to spend more time to
become more efficient in using a screen reader and switch over to using
JAWS? I just struggle with spending so much additional time to complete
basic paperwork. For example completing monthly progress reports and having
to sort through paper charts to obtain drug screen results in order to
complete a monthly progress report to include recent drug screen results.

Thanks,
Rebecca Arrowood
