[humanser] Vision declining

Hi Rebecca,
I have been a Jaws user for quite some time (my first version was
5.0). I have NVDA that I use as a back up, but I prefer to use JAWS.
I have found that the different EMR solutions are becoming more
compatible and some are open to discussions around improving their
platforms. I have found that the nagging problem of paperwork is one that is
shared by all human service workers regardless of blindness!
I would also encourage you to attend to the emotional adjustment of
the continuous loss of your vision. Self-care is so important to our work. I
have found that many counselors ignore their own adjustment to loss and find
themselves struggling with the powerless feelings associated with depression
and anxiety. Without the attention to the self, the weeds of self doubt can
creep into our garden and choke out the fruits of our work. Take care my
friend.

Warmly,

Rev. Michael “Big Dog” Abell

Subject: [humanser] Vision declining

Hi all,

I currently work as a mental health and substance abuse counselor in
training. I have progressive Conrad dystrophy. I am noticing that my vision
is actually declining. I am worried about how this will impact my ability to
complete my job, specifically around completing paperwork.

How do others complete paperwork efficiently? I currently use magic screen
magnification and reader. I am not sure if I need to spend more time to
become more efficient in using a screen reader and switch over to using
JAWS? I just struggle with spending so much additional time to complete
basic paperwork. For example completing monthly progress reports and having
to sort through paper charts to obtain drug screen results in order to
complete a monthly progress report to include recent drug screen results.

Thanks,
Rebecca Arrowood
