Subject: [Nabs-presidents] Mapping issues
To: List for NABS State Presidents <nabs-presidents at nfbnet.org>

Hello all,

I have a question of accessibility for any out there who may be
able to help. I am a forestry major and we use multi layered
geograpic information systems to map forests, elevation, streams etc.
GIS itself is not accessible, but I still need to know the concepts
behind a complex mapping tool like it. I need to come up with some
way that I can learn what the other students are and I know of no real
mapping tool for the blind that would have any degree of
sophistication. I could always go the writing a paper route, but
assignments closer to what my sighted peers are doing would most
likely be better for me and less of a cop out in general. Does any
have ideas or knowledge of mapping software? Thanks.

Sincerely,
   Ryan Thomas
President
Arizona Association of Blind Students
