[nabs-l] Revisiting idea of division for students with multiple disabilities

Carly,
One of my biggest gripes with the Federation is the way in which it claims to be "the voice of the nation's blind,"instead of a voice among the Nation's blind people. I failed to see how your most recent comment, where you are seemingly speaking for all blind people with other disabilities is any different. Am I misunderstanding you?
Best,
Kirt

I mean, isn't a teaching of the Federation's, to be counted amongst the masses, with the Federation's insisting that, blindness is "just a characteristic?" To totally downplay it? We appreciate the same thing as "regular" blind people. We would appreciate our multiple handicapped-ness downplayed, in much a same way. Definitely not a special division to glorified our double handicappedness.

A few months ago there was a thread about starting a division or group of students who are interested in advocating for people with multiple disabilities, whether they be intellectual, physical, or mental. Is there still interest? I'm still interested but was wondering if there are members who would like to have a conference call to further discuss ideas. Thank you for any responses.
