Hello NABS family:
For those who do not know me, my name is Michael Ausbun, the current
Secretary for the National Association of Blind Students (NABS)-a proud
division of the National Federation of the Blind. I am a current student at
our Louisiana Center for the Blind in Ruston, and this year will be my third
consecutive national Convention. I will be running for the position of First
Vice President at our fiftieth anniversary NABS business meeting this year!
I recognize that through love, hope, and determination we the blind
can transform dreams into reality. I have served as the vice president of
our Nevada Affiliate, as a board member of NABS, and as a chapter president.
Since last year, President Webster and I have worked hard to introduce a
funding program for students to attend Washington Seminar, served as the
legislative chair for NABS, obtained several letters of support from
students across all 50 states, colleges, and congressional leaders, and done
my upmost to contribute to offering the gift of the Federation to other
students at 11 different state conventions including Nevada, Louisiana,
Idaho, Texas, and Utah.
If you were to provide me with the honor to continuing to serve you,
my goals for the term would be:
(1)	Work with president Webster, the rest of the board, and fellow
students to ensure the passing of H.R. 1772, the Accessible Instructional
Materials in higher Education act while gathering letters of support from
all students in our 52 affiliates and as many universities as possible.
(2)	Work with president Webster, the board, and fellow students to
ensure as many students as possible continue to receive support and funding
to attend Washington Seminar and National Convention.
(3)	Continue to work on building the Student division and ensuring as
many students across the nation are receiving the love of the Federation.
(4)	Working to ensure that the needs of students are being met across
the nation.
(5)	Continuing to give my heart and soul to our movement.
I look forward to seeing you all this summer. We still have a lot of work to
do to gain equality, opportunity and security for blind students, but I know
that together we can accomplish this task. I hope to have your support at
the convention, but in the mean time I look forward to working with you all!
As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Respectfully,
Michael Ausbun, Secretary
National Association of Blind Students
