[nagdu] Checked Bags and Second Seat Wavers

Hello Marion,
And while we're at it we should investigate weather or not airlines will
wave the charge for second seats if the floorspace in the additional seat
area will be occupied by a service animal; something I feel should be
investigated. Southwest has language in their service animal policy
indicating that they will allow a service animal to occupy the floorspace at
the passengers own seat and the space next to the passenger. As it turns out
we were seated in a bulkhead. In addition to myself needing the additional
room Johnny was also occupying this space as well. None of my flights were
completely sold out. On some of them I was the only passenger in the row so
why should they make such a big fuss over it and make me purchass the second
seat?
I still maintain that this whole business would be solved if airlines
installed wider seats in coach. All passengers could travel in comfort and
there would be additional floorspace for our dogs at our own seats. And the
airlines could sell all of their seats knowing they won't cause anyone
discomfort, embarrassment, inconvenience, and will not separate large dogs
from their owners should the floorspace not be sufficient enough to
accommodate them.
Peter Donahue who is looking forward to the skys becoming friendlier for
large passengers and guide dog users.

Liz,
I heard about the waiving of fees for checked baggage, as well! I think
it was on this list. i would like to get more information from a reliable,
authoritative source. Does anyone have such a resource for this question?
fraternally yours,
Marion
