Hm....  That's interesting additional information.  I still can't imagine
how I would swing attending the Colorado Center -- or any other NFB center
in the near future -- but if the length of time spent is based on
proficiency gained....  Hm.  Filing in the "to be considered" folder.

The rock climing in the Rockies would be soooo awesome, and having
instruction in how to do it blind would be better!  Yay!  Also, the wood
shop, and the tools, and learning various cane techniques....

Well, an NFB Center is still on my list for someday, but we'll see.  Sigh.
I always enjoy hearing about people's experiences, though.  Good to know
there's an alternative to state agencies when those are nonexistent or not
currently functional.  Whew!  /grin/

Dan,

The NFB centers are all inclusive packages.  You get instruction in cane 
travel, Braille, computers, cooking, daily living skills and some sort of 
confidence building activity.  the specific schedule varies a bit, but those

are the core things being taught.  You can't pick just one class, like 
computers, to attend.

The 6 to 9 months is an estimate of how long it will take to gain 
proficiency in all areas.  some people don't take quite that long and others

take a bit longer.

Jenny used to be on this list and she shared a lot about her experiences at 
the Colorado center.  She did use her guide during specific portions of her 
training, in addition to the evenings and weekends.  I'm remembering that 
she just approached the staff and asked.
