Hello Tara,

I have been feeding my dogs a prey model raw diet for ten years now
(woe, that makes me feel very old!)

I first started out feeding more veggies although I have never fed
grains since the reason I switched to raw in the first place was that
my then working guide had very serious grain allergies. I used some
vegetables at first such as greens, carrots, broccoli, etc. However
it took a great deal of time since dogs cannot obtain any benefit from
vegetable matter unless it is either frozen or pulped in a juicer or
food processor. I read the books written by Dr. Tom Lawnsdale-- Raw
Meaty Bones and another who's title escapes me at the moment due to a
lack of caffeine.

Soon after-- I switched to a prey model raw diet-- which consists of
raw meaty bones, muscle meat and organs. I feed as much variety as I
can. Beef, pork, chicken, duck, turkey, fish, rabbit and the list
goes on and on. I try and feed as many different types of organs as I
can. The key is balance over time.

The dog I started this diet with is now 12.5 years old and still going
strong. She has some issues related to age but is otherwise healthy,
happy and full of life. I feed my dogs whole bones-- the bigger the
better. They have beautiful teeth, wonderful breath, small poop which
doesn't smell as bad and they are healthy and full of energy.

If I can answer more questions or if you'd like to chat feel free to
write me off list.
