[nagdu] Going to Jail

My dog was with me when I went into the hospital to have my daughter.
Very cool experience, though I had someone come get her before the real
action got going.
I had arranged for her to visit me after I had my daughter, only thing
is, that once my daughter was born, my dog was the last thing I wanted
to see. I hurt like heck in places I hadn't known existed, and I just
couldn't deal with my dog.
I think childbirth is the only thing where you do a whole lot of very
hard work, only to have somebody say "Here, now go take care of this
kid" and you have to do it using skills that you are very new at,
atleast if it's your first. You also have the emotions of "Wow, this is
amazing" and then "Why did I want to do this" and then back to it being
neat again.
Really, you men need an equivalent experience.
When my daughter got ear tubes, I did not have a dog. I am glad I
didn't, as I was again in a position where I wouldn't have wanted to
deal with a dog. Ear tubes are a minor surgery, though if it's your kid,
it isn't minor because of the emotions involved. It was very important
that I touch the room and the bed and meet the staff who would be
treating my daughter. It was also very important that I hold her and
kiss her while she went under the anesthetic because well, to be morbid,
some people never wake up from a general anesthetic. And, it was
important to me that I hold her as she came out of the anesthetic. She
was fine, the ear tubes did their job, and all was well. A dog though
would have added one level of stress that I so didn't need.

Hi Chastity,
I've brought my dog into an ICU to visit someone there. Not only was he

allowed in there, many of the staff people came over to enjoy Landon. I
let
them get "dog fixes" they pet him and, I'm sure, he provided a bit of
pet
therapy for these good people who have very stressful work.

I never had my dog with me in a recovery room. Landon has been with the

person who provided me transportation for my surgeries. Come to think
of
it - I think my friend brought Landon into the recovery room to get me
when
I was at a surgical center for my cornea transplant. I remember my
friend
quipping with the nurses about me not driving home after the surgery and
not
to drive that day. LOL! He had Landon with him and the staff enjoyed
him.
But that recovery room wasn't right next to the OR.

Lyn and Landon
