Julie,

Just when you thought it was safe... /lol/ Just because you've managed to
remove a bad habit doesn't mean the dog's not going to snag a nummy treat
now and then. So long as it doesn't go back to being something have to deal
with all day, every day... /lol/

Mitzi was hysterical after we moved in with DD, since he could see her
silently conducting her life of crime... And he could see her expression
when he busted her in the actand told her no from the other room. He
assures me he has never seen a dog -- or anyone else -- look so shocked in
all his life. I think it had never occurred to her that this new human
could *see* her. So of course she had to test this out by making it a
mission to see how much she couldn't get away anymore. It about made him
crazy to have such a rebellious creature living under his roof until he
finally clued in that she was now just messing with him for her own
amusement. Then he started laughing and playing the game back. It got to
be quite a contest, but she was having so much fun with that she pretty much
forgot about countersurfing. Except on special occasions, of course.
Silly, silly silly poodle!

I still find myself wondering what she must have been getting up to in my
old apartment after she discovered the freedom of silence. And yes, I had
bells on her collar. Took her all of a day to figure out how to keep them
from jingling when she wanted to do something she thought might upset me if
I knew about it. I would only find the end result when I stepped on it or
tripped over it or found it where it wasn't supposed to be with a new and
confusing new texture to it or... By then it was too late to do anything to
prevent her doing it again except to fail to be as impressed as she seemed
to think I should be at how clever she was.

How did I ever manage to survive that pup long enough for her to grow up?
/lol/

Gary and all,

Monty is also tall enough that he can rest his chin on my dining room table.

With only a tiny bit of stretching he can reach the kitchen counter and his
feet don't even have to leave the floor. He used to steal food for the
first few months that I had him, but I don't think he had ever gotten into
trouble for it before. He'd usually bring his prizes right to me so he
could lay down next to me and eat them. I'd trade him his prize for an
appropriate treat or toy. I also kept a super close watch on him and would
call him every time he went into the kitchen and I thought he might be
scoping out the prospects. He has been very, very good around food for such

a long time I don't think about it too much, until today...the husband was
cutting fat off a beef roast and Monty tried to snag a piece. Oh, M-dog, I
think there is much food refusal practice in your future!

Julie
