Hello Dan and everyone,

Freedom for the Blind: The Secret is Empowerment does a far better job
of explaining the Structured-Discovery Learning Concept better than I can.
This book and other articles on the subject can be found at:
http://www.nfb.org/nfb/Literature_Rehab.asp?SnID=78126574

After studying Freedom for the Blind and the other material there you
should have a solid of grasp of Structured-Discovery Learning.

And how would a guide dog school based on NFB philosophy be different?
You would use the structured discovery method, a technique which no one has
ever defined for me thought I've been asking that question for years--smile.
Just yanking your chain a bit here, but tell me what you would envision?

Now, as far as the discussion of guide dogs and raising kids, I can't
comment at all since I fortunately don't have any kids--smile.
I do know competent people who have been good parents and used guide dogs
throughout the process and wish they'd comment, because frankly it mystifies
me.
What you have done successfully, though Rebecca, is remind me again why I
don't want kids--smile.
I like to enjoy other people's kids and then go home and not worry about the
rest of it. Please, God, spare me--smile.
But, all joking aside, I admire you and all the Moms and Dads out there and
I think whatever choice someone makes it has to be the right one for them.

For now, though, and I suspect for a very long time to come, I want the
responsibility of the guide dog and not the kid--smile.

Take care,

Dan W. and the Carter Nut
