[nagdu] job seeking and your guide dog

Always be careful of people who say "you don't really need your dog, do
you?". That actually means "I don't think you need him."Or "I don't want you
to bring him, so I'll make you feel guilty".

My apologies to those who have female dogs, of course, in this case I would
qualify the people asking as female dogs--smile.

I once had an issue, not resolved well unfortunately.
In 1995 I was given a translating job for a court deposition.
The agency lady was pretty unhappy about me brining my dog and because I
stated he'd be with me she cancelled the assignment.
In that rather enlightening conversation she voiced the thought that "you
don't really need your dog".
I could let someone guide me, or why don't I use one of those sticks.
Very enlightening chat indeed.
When I discussed this with one or tow rehab people, just as a story, they
said "well, why don't you just leave your dog".

So, it happens.

You're left in the rather uncomfortable position of being made to feel that
you yourself are the problem.

Now what Dan would have done now is say "Oh, whatever you say" then shown up
with the dog, let them find another interpreter on such short notice the
jerks.

hi Janine,

I'm sorry to hear that people are being questioned.

I've never been asked to leave Gabe at home or not to bring him on
assignments.
I've chosen to leave Gabe at the office or at home from time to time if I
have to conduct an interview out in the country where people usually have
loose dogs running around.

Also, the company where I work is moving to a new building. I learned
yesterday that there are plans to build an area for Gabe next to my desk.
Liz
