[nagdu] Jogging with my dog

Cindy,

I've never heard that. I could see how all out running/sprinting for long
distances wouldn't be advisable. I can also see how running on pavement for
long distances wouldn't be the best for a dog because they don't have the
advantage of shock absorbing shoes.

The times I have gone jogging with my dogs, and they have been a while ago,
the dog wasn't running. I'm not sure if it is because I am a slow jogger or
my dogs are really fast walkers or what. It's been probably a year since I
tried it with Monty, but he just walks faster. His gait doesn't change into
a gallop or run. He's very tall though, so maybe that has something to do
with it.

My take on jogging with a guide is that if you work into it slowly, just as
you would in any sort of physical training, it should be fine. Also if you
are going really long distances, jogging on something other than pavement
would probably be best. As for the guiding part, if you are jogging on a
smooth, clear pathway meant for jogging, the dog should be able to guide you
safely.

JMHO
Julie
