[nagdu] I did it!

When I had to use FMLA a few years ago, it comes down to how it is presented
to a great degree I think. In this case, it would seem to me that the
rationale is that he is taking FMLA for his wife who has an ongoing eye
condition and he needs to be able to care for the family while she is unable
to help. I am not an attorney but this seems rational to me. The downside is
that income for that month is drastically affected. Also, he could most
likely work part days if the children are in any kind of school program
since I don't know the ages. This way too, by taking by the hour, he can
make the allowed time last longer. If he has a good company, they may even
be able to allow him to work some from home, use vacation or leave time, and
make this a package deal that they work out if they understand what he is
doing and why. The best to the entire family.

I actually agree here. This involves the family, so naturally, if possible,
the father (when did his parenting role suddenly stop) should be very
involved in caring for the children if possible while his wife is in class.
Strange to me not to want to explore the possibility of the othe rparent
being involved. That's like saying, you are off the hook, honey, even
though *you* re the father, and *I* need to get a new guide dog. Does his
company; offer FMLA, and if so, could he use it for this.

Well, IMHO prayer always works. My girls have never been in daycare and
never had a nanny. My mom works for the school board so is not available.
Other family members either work, attend college over an hour away or just
won't keep them. I'm a homeschooler, as I've said, so my kids are used to
being here with me all the time. I do have a sister who might be able to
work out a schedule with my husband, though. As for whether he would want to
stay home with them, my opinion on that is, if you don't want to stay home
sometimes with your kids, then don't have any. I want another dog very much,
but my girls come first, at least for now.
