[nagdu] Story that I don't know what to think ab out

And she offered of her own free will. She's an adult, she knows what she's offering.
Your rationale just isn't adding up Mark. I'm sorry.
Janitors do carry a lot of weight, some might say more then your professor. You've got a guy willing to go to bat for you, yet you don't seem worried about his career. My guess is he and his coworkers are more aware of you (and other students) then you realize.
I don't understand why you haven't taken up all the people who have offered to help and have them attend meetings with you to sort this out.
These people are adults. They believe helping you is the right thing to do. And you want to "be nice"
This just doesn't add up.

You said you didn't want to use her help because it might bring undue pressure to bear on her. I was just saying that you really don't have to worry much about that if she is tenured. I would use absolutely everyone I needed to use, but honestly, I wouldn't be willing to continue in a school that gives me that much grief over the dog issue. Of course, that has its down side, too. I don't know. In the end, you will have to do the things that are best for you and it isn't might right to make that sort of judgments. I was only stating that I think if she offers to help you with a meeting, then you should do that, or at least I would strongly consider it.

I am trying to be a nice guy, because I will have to work with all the people in question for the next 4 years. I am only a freshman after all. I can't afford to make enemies, or even worse bring scrutiny or pressure down upon people in the department who are willing to help.

Forcing the point, and having a face to face meeting will only serve to make the dean angrier. If I do have a face to face meeting, I will most certainly have someone with me as an advocate. Probably this professor who is willing to go to bat for me. But for now, I am pursuing other avenues.
