[nagdu] Air Travel With a Guide Dog

When I travel by car I keep the dog on the same feeding, watering and
relieving schedule.

I have only traveled by air with a guide once, a few years ago. It was
awful, not because of the dog, but airport staff were unhelpful in the
extreme. Well, one staff person was anyway.

My only advice is to plan your relief breaks for the dog when you have a
decent length layover. It could take a bit of time to find the right
place, get there, for the dog to do his thing amidst all the strangeness
and then get back to your next gate. It's also possible that you will
need to leave the secured area, requiring even more time. You are
supposed to be able to go to the front of the line when returning
through security after taking a service dog out to relieve. I have no
idea if this is actually what happens though. We all know how TSA seems
to interpret their rules based on the whim of the moment.

Sorry for my pessimism. I really don't like flying and have come to
have an especially large distaste for airports.

Julie
