Great blogs, Marsha! As I went to GDF in the 1970s, I remember some of the
stuff like the leash-guiding. It is great to have this and wish the other
schools taught it. Back in the 1980s, a friend and his wife were at a
summer camp for the blind and they had their dogs with them. The wife's dog
chewed the chest piece of the husband's dog's harness while they were left
alone because of some activity. So, here they were at camp and an totally
useless harness. My friend had a necktie - think the wife's dog chewed the
leash as well - been too long ago. Anyway, the husband had to get around by
using the leash-guiding skill - with the necktie - and did fine. I happened
to have an old harness from one of my dogs that I just forgot about and it
never was sent back to the school. My friend had me send him that harness
via Greyhound bus and he got it and used it.

I know that back in the 1990s, a new dorm building was built. At the time I
went, we were in a ranch-style house with two wings with foour rooms each.
Three rooms on each wing was used as bedrooms sleeping two. The fourth one
on each wing was a lounge for either the women or men. The end bedrooms had
a private bath but the other two had to share a bath off the hallway. the
main lounge or living room was in the middle along with the kitchen and
dining room. The relief area for the dogs was a long strip of concrete with
a sidewalk and curb like along a street. A grassy area was beyone the
concrete "street" part. The kennels were part of a bunch of other
outbuildings on the campus.

Like what you're getting, our meals were simple, homestyle affairs and good!
Can you eat stuff made for vegan vegetarieans? I know that they have foods
that can be made without eggs but use a substitute of some sort.

I've been cracking up about the discussion about the guessing your dog's
name. You said the nickname is "Mouse". How about the name "Ratatuille"
(don't know the spelling) that was a movie about a French rat in Paris. It
was a Disney movie out a couple of years ago. Landon has rat friends. On
our pet therapy visits, we have HUGE white rats named "Horton" and "Who" and
they look alike and are brothers. One walked up to Landon and they touched
noses and it was very cute. Dang it, we're not allowed to take photos
because of the privacy laws, so I've missed many Kodak Moments!

Take care and I'll try to keep up with your blog and enjoy your training
with "Missy". Oh, you mentioned a special harness for balance, can you
pleasse describe that to us? I've seen balance harnesses but don't know
what one would look like for guiding the blind as well as balancing.
