Subject: [nagdu] Lions International

Yes, I am sorry if I am being pushy, but I really felt that there was
a misinterpretation or something that needed to be clarified so I have
done some research. Leader Dogs was first founded by Lions members and
for a while did carry the name Lions Leader Dogs, but had to drop that
in 1940 as it was never approved by Lions International. They do
continue to get much support from the Lions, as do many clubs, but
they are not a Lions organization. Pilot Dogs, Incorporated on the
other hand is officially the Lions Pilot Dogs, Inc. This was voted in
by Lions International in 1960 and has been as such ever since. They
also get a lot of support, obviously, from Lions. I really think the
people in the Montana club, where the issues were are either being
misunderstood or are grumpy. I know as a Lion we try to help where
ever we are able and would not refuse help to someone based on where
they got their dog, especially since we may actually have local clubs
who choose to support the guide dog school nearest them. Just wanted
to clarify this and I am sorry if it is redundant. I am not trying to
be right, I just felt this was important enough to need clarification.
Thanks. Eve
