[nagdu] Introducing myself, and a question

Matt,
I suggest calling Fidelco to see if they provide dogs to people who
live outside of the tri-state area. I could be mistaken, but I thought
that clients had to live within the tri-state area to receive one of
their GSDS.
Gallant Hearts is a good suggestion, though if you go with that
school, they might not have a dog ready for you by the end of this
year, considering they're still pretty new. It's a good program to
look into though. I love everything I've heard about it. They
definitely do home training, but they require first-time guide dog
travelers to stay a week at their campus, then do a week or two of
home-training. Contact Becky to make certain of that, and also to ask
about the waiting list.
Guiding Eyes for the Blind does home-training, but unfortunately,
they're only issuing labradors, so if you want a different breed, that
program is obviously not an option for you.
Just out of curiosity, why would you rather attend a guide dog school
in the US instead of obtaining a dog from a program right there in
Canada? I know little about the Canadian guide dog programs, but I'm
just curious why you'd rather come here. Are you after a German
Shepherd, and none of the schools there issue them?
