They know about medical deductions, so ask them what the minimum amount of
medical-related expenses are this year that you would need to make filing a
long form a cost-effective option. It will depend on your tax bracket, how
much taxable income you have, that sort of thing. If you get a figure that
squares with the amount you can prove you're paying for your dog + your own
medical out-of-pocket, and you think you'll be paying enough taxes that the
deduction based on those expenses will be greater than the added cost to
prepare the long form, then tell them about the provision that medical
expenses can include the care of service dogs, and let them figure it out.
It's been our experience, that tax preparers are aware of this.

What line or form should you mention to the person preparing the taxes.
They probably don't know anything about blindness and guide dog services and
any other related deductions.

	It is my understanding you can deduct dog food, grooming, and
veterinarian expenses from Federal taxes. At least, my wife and I do!
