Danielle, I'm not a moderator, but I have to say your message
didn't seem very much on topic, or very appropriate. It had
nothing to do with dog guide schools, and besides that we have
members of this list from other countries. You have a right to
your opinion, but in MY opinion that comment wasn't appropriate
for this list. Debby

Well I'll go you one public and just tell you I don't prefer
dealing
with International People. I don't trust them! And especially
business
dealings,. I probably wouldn't marry someone from another
country
because I feel like they all have contacts with folks from their
own
country and you could suddenly find yourself in a world of
trouble and
not know why all because of a simple misunderstanding or
disagreement.
Now at Guide dog school I have met some Canadians who were
wonderful
and delightful and we met some great Brits at Disney World too.
Casual
passing cov is as far I I will go. Oh yeah and at church we had
some
African members and pastor who were great hearts as well.
Generally,
though I keep my distance and I DO NOT like getting a foreign rep
over
the phone because it seems the language and cultural barriers are
magnified! Not bashing or being critical but those are my
personal
feelings and I stick with them.

Steve, write me privately and tell me about students from the

enjoyed them
immensely, unless of course it's all right to put it on list.

Unfortunately I have been led to understand that now LD is not
taking
 people
from just any country as it used to be I think only countries
where they
have some agreement with whatever organization there but that's
not of
course an official word, just my impression.
I used to love reading over the student statistics of where
Leader had
placed dogs,,, I was actually thinking of doing a thesis about
 international
people with guide dogs, but it didn't pan out.

What schools have I head about with international guide dog
students...Leader Dogs, Pilot Dogs...Guide Dog Foundation,
Guiding Eyes for
the Blind, and Guide Dogs of the Desert. Some others used to
take
international students but no longer do, but, policies seem to
change so if
you were really interested in attending an American school you
would want
 to
contact them. That is easy nowadays due to the miracle of
internet,
something I thank my lucky stars for every day.

Lisa, I know one German lady who went to LD, but I don't want to
say her
name on the list because I only talked to her once and I don't
know what
 she
would think of that, if you want I can find contact for her and
see if I
 can
have her talk to you or something--smile.

Take care all and happy new year

As stated, Leader Dog works with many countries outside of the
U.S
 including
Mexico, many South American Countries, South East Asian
Countries, and
Western European Countries. I have had the privilege to be in
classes with
students from many of the countries which is an amazing
experience in
 itself.

 Hi everyone,

Is it possible for a person who does not live in America to get
a
 guide
dog from a US guide dog school?
I've heard things like that several times in passing, e.g.
someone was
recommended to apply for a dog in the US because the waiting
list in his
 own
country was long. But I don't know if these are just rumors or
if these
 cases exist.
Does anyone on here know something about this?

And just to clarify this in advance: I'm still with my German
guide
 dog
and do not intend on trading him for another one very soon. ;-)

 Thanks.
 Lisa
