Oh yes, Sandra, since I have had a torn ligament it's ben giving me problems
on the right foot off and on for 20 years, and when I fall, I fall
hard...fortunately I had an operation last year to put the ligament back
together and ti's significantly better but I'm still afraid of that
possibility.

I hope you get help, Tracey, if it ewwere me frankly I'd consider what I
needed to do if this kept happening, also you are probably going at a good
clip when it happens so that makes it worse...

Dan

Tracy,

You are not crazy. Your guide dog should not cause you to fall so much. It
sounds like he is taking you too far to the right edge of the sidewalks.
You are right, this is basic stuff and he should not be doing it. I am glad
you called the school and hope they get to help you soon. I have very weak
ankles so this is my biggest fear when working my dog. If my foot gets too
close to the edge of the walk on the right it is a sure thing that I will
end up on the ground. When I feel my foot too close, I tell Eva to watch it
and move over left and give her a gentle nudge with my left knee against her
shoulder. This is enough for her to be more aware of that edge and to keep
me further away from it. I do the same thing if I trip over broken or
cracked walks. Eva is very sensitive so she gets nervous when I fall. Good
luck.

Once again, Krokus pushed me off the right edge of the sidewalk, so I fell
down, and got some scrapes and bruises. I think it was a place where the
sidewalk narrowed down a bit, and he just kept going straight. Really,
though, I don't care why. This is the third time he's done the same thing,
missed an edge, or the line between the sidewalk and a parking lot, so that
I've fallen. He remembers for a while, then it happens again. I don't know
if I'm more clumsy than I used to be, or he's more careless, but I don't
remember falling so much with any other dog. I'm losing confidence in him.
He can be an excellent guide, but sometimes he's not.
Not taking me off the edge is basic stuff. I guess I could start carrying
my cane all the time, to check him, but then what's the point of having him?
I have a call into the school, to see what they say. If others know how to
fix this problem, I'll consider ideas. Call me crazy, but a guide dog
should keep me from falling, clumsy or not.
Tracy
