[NAGDU] Corrections

Hi list,

I have been accused of abusing my dogs but actually no one contacted the school or filed a report.

Personally, if I did not feel comfortable with using a method the instructor taught me I might look into alternatives. For example, I was taught to use quite harsh leash corrections when I started guide dog training a few years back. Over the years I found out other ways to redirect behaviour.

As for my dog being distractable, this can have a lot of different reasons from health issues to food digestion problems to stressors in the invironment. Besides backtracking a bit in training I would definitely have a look if annything else has changed in my circumstances.

And sometimes, especially in the first few months or after a particularly difficult situation it's more a relationship thing.

Btw., I thought the Seeing Eye switched over to clicker training or are they in transition and do still teach correction based methods to their handlers? Just interested.

Best regards,

Bianka
