Back chaining is a way to teach behavior.   You teach the last behavior in a
chain first and work back from there.  So if I'm teaching a dog to retrieve,
the first behavior I will teach is the "give," then the "hold," and then the
"get."
If I'm teaching a dog to remember a place, I will start at the place I want
the dog to remember and work out from that place, increasing my distance in
small amounts once the dog demonstrates understanding at the current
distance.
