[NAGDU] Just out of curiosity

Hi Julie. Yeah, I asked that first and haven't found any user who likes to go for walks either, so thought it was due to the same reason. Besides that, Most users here are not proficient in the use of white cane and they can't walk their dogs without harness, so that won't be a recreation for the dog, they say.
There are approximately 10 Dog parks in the city, and most of them are well maintained, since much of the people who take their dogs are responsible owners that at least are concerned about spending time with their pets, plus some of them are located in the nice zones of the city.
There are also places in nature where the dogs can be off leash and greet horses and other animals, though they are far from the city. We went to one of them last week and my dog swam a bit in the stream.
I expected to meet other guide dog handlers as you've said, but maybe I'll have to persist a bit more.

I think there are a lot of variables to a dog park. Is it decently clean and maintained? Is it big enough for the number of dogs? Are the rules monitored and enforced? Are the people responsible?

I do take Monty to the dog park from time to time. I live in a very small town though and quite frequently we are the only ones there. If there are other dogs it's never been more than 2 or 3. It's pretty rare that Monty chooses to play with other dogs. They sniff, greet each other, run around for about 2 minutes, then Monty is off doing his favorite thing, peeing on all the trees.

I have never set up play dates for either of my dogs. I've made the offer, but it hasn't come together. Monty isn't all that much into playing with other dogs anyway. Jetta would need a very specific type of dog and a lot of patience. She has issues.

If you want to meet up with others to get the dogs some exercise, I'd suggest inviting guide dog handlers to go on a walk, perhaps somewhere in nature. Maybe after the handlers get to know you and the dogs have experience being around each other, you can move up to a free run play in a non dog park fenced in area. I think that's your best bet.

Hi,

I never take any of our dogs to a public dog park. I have seen too many undisciplined dogs and have seen too many dogs injured by aggressive unmanaged dogs.

I had an employee who got a puppy several years. Within a few months of getting the pup she took her to a dog park. My wife and I expressed concern over this, but, as you can imagine, our concerns fell upon deaf ears. After several visits to the park, one day her dog was almost killed by another uncontrolled larger dog. The dog survived, but our employee had several thousand dollars of vet bills.

If I need to run off energy with Alamo or any of my dogs I will do it elsewhere and where I can get some exercise too.

Best Regards,

Michael Hingson

Hi all.

So I asked on a guide dog users list from my country if someone wanted to do
walks once a week to exercise their dog and no one answered. 3 months later
I asked if someone would like to take their dog to a local dog park so that
my dog and theirs could socialize, and again no answer.

My question is this: do you folks who have program dogs have any restriction
as far as taking your dog to dog parks, outdoor areas or socialize your dog
with other non-assistance dogs is concerned? I ask this because maybe I'm
asking something that's not allowed without me knowing it.

Thanks a lot!
