[NAGDU] NAGDU Digest, Vol 170, Issue 5

We’ve had the same issue before. We might only use a crate once in a couple of years now. But if so, it’s about flying somewhere and using it there. We’ve settled on the wire ones that fold flat, and use a folding hand cart. The suitcase company called Porter Case is out of business. But they made two models of a roll aboard suitcase that is built in the reverse of most. You hold the handle, and the suitcase flips down to become a luggage cart, which can hold 150 pounds of stuff. I’ve carried a cage, and three full sized military duffle bags on it through airports! Consider ebay or craigslist if you run out of options, get the model of cage you have to settle for, and you’ll have a cart to carry it all. Perhaps with hand issues, there could be a carry loop of velcro that is wide enough to remain comfortable and not sink into the wrist, and it could be what tows the handle instead of having to grip the handle. Velcro would also be thin enough that the loop could stay with the suitcase and not interfere with how the handle clicks shut when it is retracted back down into it’s groove with the body of the hard case. Hope this helps. I’ve run up on this before. And Julie, we got a nylon one at petsmart. Yup, PVC frame, flimsy, not great. Lighter though. A good compromise perhaps, except for one thing. Wire cages were fine. But this one? Nope, treats or not, neither dog will get anywhere near it! It lives, and probably will die, up in our loft. Go wire!

> Hi y'all, I'm searching for a crate that can hold my 25 inch tall amstaff mix service dog Rowan. Soleil, my smaller lab has a sportpet pop open crate but the large, which I am seeming to find is their largest size, only goes up to 21 inches in height. I have searched Chewy and all of their crates seem to fold down but their footprint is still 36x21 or whatever the footprint is when its set up. It does come with carry handles but I'd really like something like the sportpet that folds down smaller so it will fit in a backpack. I have some hand spasticity issues and so carrying around a soft sided crate by handles is kind of problematic for me. Does anyone know of a folding crate that actually folds and will hold a larger dog? My main issue is visiting my family. I would like a safe place for my dog to go where young children cannot get to her and where she can relax. I do not use tie outs at my house so my dog has never been tied out and I'm not particularly comfortable leaving her tied because again many small children and I would honestly just prefer a crate.
