[NAGDU] NAGDU guide dog schools

I applied to two different schools and read the book, A Guide to Guide
Dog Schools, which is available on NLS BARD and Bookshare.org. It is a
bit outdated, and does not include some of the newer schools like
Occupaws and Guide Dogs of Texas. I also read Handbook for Perspective
Guide Dog Users by Guide Dog Users Inc. I made a list of all the guide
dog schools by using assistance Dogs International website adi.org,
which lists their member organizations, NFB's resource list of guide
dog schools, and American Foundation for the blind afb.org database
of guide dog schools. I went on every website and read lots of
personal accounts of guide dog experience. Someone else already
mentioned making a list of pros and cons, and then also, make sure to
figure out what is emportant. Once you think you have it narrowed
down, call or email the schools and ask anything you feel you need to
know. Sometimes, the schools have their lectures online, and sometimes
they have things like tours of the campus, or detailed explanations of
the training program and training schedule. Also, almost all of the
schools have an email list you can join that will tell you about the
school and their philosophy. I am only on my first dog for three
months now, so I can't give you much of my personal experience with
training at other schools. Hope this helps Gretchen and guide dog
Beacon Grace.
