Cindy, I think your message was a bit much/harsh. Naturally they, as well
as us, want a dog to be in a stable/permanent situation. This is not always
probable nor realistic given everyone's particular situation. If a guide
dog is trained to a high enough standard for the guide dog school to
graduate him/her then given a little practice, they should be able to guide
in any new place situation. I guess you have to have enough confidence in
your school as well as your dog. Naturally you need to encourage, love and
try to keep life as they know it as similar as possible, but every guide dog
should be able to guide you safely in any new situation.

Just think about where you are generally. Are you staying in one place
mostly, or are you dashing about moving all the time? Are you homeless? Do
you regularly move because you can't get along with roommates? Will you have
a routine in place so the dog doesn't have to wonder where his next meal is
coming from? Just think about your lifestyle a little bit. They know that if
you are a student, you will be in school part of the year and at home
sometimes, but if your life is mainly chaotic, they would rather not enter
one of the dogs into that situation. It is about how you regularly live
knowing that stuff happens.

What We Expect of Students

Applicants to The Seeing Eye should: Be in a settled, stable home
environment with no move imminent

What do they mean by this; is there loop holes? College students get guide
dogs and their living situation isn't stable going from home to dorm life
and back again several times per year. Sometimes a job is unexpected or last
second.

What if you want to move because your apartment is dirty and you feel
unsafe, and it isn't a expected or planned move but your lease is up at the
end of March and you would like to find a new apartment in the same town and
same part of town, but a building that is more secure and clean; you would
be able to use your same routes of travel you used with the first one? Are
you playing with fait and is there a good chance you will be rejected?

Thank you.
