Hi Tracy. Our veterinary staff says that this sort of thing is happening because more people are not vaccinating their dogs as they should because of COVID but still going to dog parks etc. A good reminder as to why keeping up on vaccines is so important. So scary!

I just got a notice from the big vet hospital in New York City that there is a lot of parvo around just now. It can kill dogs, particularly puppies. I pasted the info they sent below my signature.

🐾 Canine parvovirus is shed through the feces of infected dogs, but dogs don’t need to come into contact with each other to catch the disease – just the virus.

🐾 The virus is extremely resilient and can live on surfaces for many months.

🐾 Extreme temperatures will not kill parvovirus and neither will soap, hand sanitizer, or Lysol. The only home solution that kills parvo is bleach, diluted 1:30 with water, applied to the contaminated surface for a minimum of ten minutes.

🐾 Puppies are extremely vulnerable to this disease and are not protected until they receive their full series of vaccinations.
