Albuquerque's crime rate, like most cities, has increased over the past few months, especially with COVID-19. People with disabilities are at risk because many use public transportation, live alone, and face many physical challenges, factors which make them vulnerable to criminals who assume people with disabilities are less able to protect themselves. 

Learn how to protect yourself from becoming a victim by attending this informative class.

Live Independently and Safely
During COVID-19 and After!

*	Always give the exact location of your emergency because it will save time and allow emergency personnel to provide the help needed and hopefully save a life!

*	Stay on the line if you are calling 911. DO NOT hang up until the operator does.

*	Never enter your home or apartment if anything appears broken, open, or suspicious!

*	Be aware of your surroundings and always vary your route so you aren't predictable.

*	If you are walking or you are in a wheel chair and someone demands your wallet, don't resist -- breathe and give them your wallet. Money and personal items can be replaced.

*	Always wear a mask when out in public per the Public Health Order. If someone is not wearing one, look away and don't say a word. Talking to a stranger about wearing a mask can make them angry and they could hurt you.

*	Try to use the buddy system whenever possible. You are less likely to be robbed if you have someone with you.

*	Always tell a friend or family member when you are going out so they can check in with you later.
