Every month we get together to learn about blindness. We get together to
learn how others do the things they do after they lose their vision,
something they have relied on for some or all of their lives. Come join us
on Wednesday, February 12, at 7:00 P. m. Mountain time.
Peggy Hayes will entertain us with her story. Here is her short bio.
I was born in Denver, Colorado in 1944. I lived in Arvada, and Bolder
Colorado until I was 8 years old. I moved to White Sands Missal Range in NM.
I went to third grade on the base.
I started attending NMSBVI in 1956. I graduated from there in 1964. I
attended 1 year of college in Portales, NM. I lived in Portales until 1967
and moved to Las Cruces with my sister and her husband until the beginning
of 1968. I took a grey Hound bus from Las Cruces to Washington D. C. I
worked at George Town University Ophthalmology Department as a receptionist
for 18 months.
I started working at the National Bureau of Standards in December of 1969. I
was a receptionist for 4 months. I started working as a key punch operator
for 3 years. I moved to the Plant Division working in the administrative
office. I worked there until I retired in 2001.
During these years I got married and adopted two children with disabilities.
I moved backed to New Mexico in July of 2001.
I became active in the NFB at that time, due to Larry Hayes

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future.
Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low
expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can
have the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
