[NFB-NM] #timesensitive #ActionRequired! Urging Opposition of HB 148 Severely Limiting autonomous Vehicle Deployment and testing in New Mexico

Greetings:

 

It has been brought to my attention that House bill 148 would severely
impact the deployment of Autonomous Vehicles in New Mexico if enacted.
Please see attached for a one page document explaining the reasons for
opposition. We, the National federation of the Blind, vehemently oppose this
legislation! On a personal note, I strongly oppose this legislation as well
because the deployment of autonomous vehicles in New Mexico would allow me
grater flexibility for times when the city bus isn't running when I need it,
or if I don't feel comfortable hailing a rideshare because I don't know if a
driver will accept my Guide Dog. I urge as many of you who are willing to
write letters of opposition to HB 148. I am also attaching my draft letter
of opposition for your reference. An opposition letter from the Autonomous
Vehicle Industry association (AVIA) is also attached.

Please send letters of opposition to the House Transportation, Public Works
and Capital Improvements Committee Members listed below my signature as soon
as possible. There is a hearing on this issue tomorrow at 9:00AM in Santa Fe
for anyone available and willing to attend. Renee Gibson from the Autonomous
Vehicle Industry Association is willing to hand deliver letters of
opposition in addition to the individual letters sent to the committee
members. If you wish for a hand delivered letter, please send it to
