Happy 2025! With the arrival of the new year and this year’s legislative session just two weeks away, it’s time for The Disability Coalition’s pre-legislative-session forum as part of Disability Rights Awareness Days. If you haven’t already registered to attend the forum, do it now!

The 2025 forum will be held on Saturday, January 11 at the CNM Workforce Training Center in Albuquerque and will include a morning plenary and afternoon breakout sessions. Representatives Liz Thomson and Charlotte Little will join us as our lunchtime speakers. Representative Thomson, a longtime disability champion, is the chair of the House Health & Human Services Committee. Representative Little is a member of San Felipe Pueblo and has extensive experience in special education issues. We look forward to hearing their thoughts on what’s likely to happen in this year’s legislative session and how YOU can be involved!

The morning plenary will include an overview of the state’s budget outlook with particular focus on agencies providing disability services; initiatives to promote accessibility in state government operations; a possible Medicaid waiver to serve people with mental illness, substance use disorder or brain injury; and a preview of disability-related legislation that’s expected to be introduced in this year’s legislative session.

In the afternoon, we’ll have two rounds of breakout sessions for you to choose from. For a complete listing of topics and presenters, see the DRAD website at https://www.classy.org/event/disability-rights-awareness-days-2025/e610552.
