Nick,

Maybe you're already working with her, but I am told that Valerie Yingling in our national office in Baltimore is working on this, too. She can be reached at vyingling at nfb.org.

My very best as you and other impacted students work to get the accomodations to which you are entitled. There are indeed ways to make this work, and it may require some creativity and innovation by the College Board with the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. I needed some small amount of such creativity and advice from our NFB leaders to get the accomodations I needed to take, successfully, my Professional Engineer licensing exam in 2004. If I can myself help in any other way, please let me know.

And, again, congratulations on being selected as a National Federation of the Blind scholarship finalist!

Nathanael Wales

Just to clarify, there is currently no “petition”, but if you would like to get involved and spread the word, please do!

Attention all,

I am not sure if you have heard about this, but it has been over Twitter and YouTube. There is a petition being filed with the US Department of Education Office of Civil Rights against the College Board.

College board is not providing blind students with the proper accommodations. College Board has made AP exams this year online. They are not providing tactile graphs and diagrams to students. College board has told students that they should have someone at home describe diagrams and graphs. This is unacceptable. I live with my mom and brother, both of which are visually impaired. I decided to formally join the class petition. I am taking the AP Chemistry, AP US Government and Politics, AP US History, and AP Calculus AB exams.

If you are a high school student or someone that wants to get involved, you can contact Kaleigh Brendle

Regards,

Nick Spohn
