Hello,
This would be a huge step forward for equity. In terms of considering the timeline, it seems wise to wait to implement some aspects until the current political climate has shifted. There have been more plane crashes in the news lately, and our president has blamed at least one on people with intellectual disabilities. We wouldn't want him to distort the truth and blame others on blind people. Nevertheless, this will eventually be an excellent tool for giving us access to more fields and opportunities.
Best,
Avery

Hello Robert and everyone,
This is a great idea but in light of the arrival of autonomous vehiclesincluding autonomous aircraft it may be better to invest on systems to permit blind pilots and passengers of autonomous or semiautonomous to pilot and operate them independently. Since 2011 I have not heard any more news concerning refinement of the interface to allow a blind person to drive vehicles. Rather the emphasis has turned to insuring the accessibility of apps and amenities in autonomous vehicles for use by the blind. Here are some links to websites and youtube videos concerning autonomous air taxi service some of which is being developed right here in San Antonio. I'll also include a link the NFBCS folks didn't get but will include it here. If you remembermusicals and movies like Chitty Chitty Bang-Bang, and Transformers know that the days of riding in one vehicle that can do it all are coming. Here are the links:

As this technology develops we need to insure these vehicles are usable by the blind and that efforts will be create to promote employment of the blind in these fields.

Hello:
I would think that research should be done to learn how unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are controlled. I would use one system for controlling the attitude of the plane, keeping it level and trimmed. I would use another system to make banks. It ought to be simple to either accept typed or spoken directions to set the desired course. There is a lot of advanced technology and research needs to be done before the NFB raises and spends funds.
Regards,
Robert
