[nfb-talk] Need Advice: Chapter Meetings in a City with Less Than Satisfactory Transportation

In my city, our mass transit system is about to undergo a massive change. Unfortunately, they've been operating over their budget and are being forced to cut back the service day. They are also probably going to have to cut weekend service. This leaves our chapter with a bit of a problem: how to make chapter meetings work.

I have some options.

1. Arrange for drivers to at least bring members home at the end, since many of them may be able to get a bus there, but they may not be able to get one back.

2. Have individual members arrange for friends to drive them to the meeting space.

3. Have a carpool or coordinated ride that picks up members who live in various parts of the city.

4. Change the meeting time to accommodate the new schedule. This may not work too well, especially if some of our members work before 5 PM.

5. As a last resort, have a conference call. I know this might do well in the short term, but I'd hate for it to become the norm. I can understand having a conference call for a statewide board meeting, but not so much for a local chapter. If the weather is bad, I can understand that, but I'm reluctant to use that option unless there is no other way.

What have others done to ensure that your local chapter can still meet even if transportation in your city is not all it could be? Thanks.
