Perhaps you've inadvertently turned down the voice. Use two fingers to flick 
up the screen to get VoiceOver to read the entire screen and then hit the 
"volume up" button to bring the voice level up. If VoiceOver isn't talking, 
the buttons determine the volume any app your using is set at.
