Ray,

You have a better background in this than I do, but isn't there anything more universal than using the PLS files?  I had heard of people who could not listen without 
Winamp, and my Windows Mobile phone would not handle it.  My kids Palm Pre could play it, though.  I listen to other streams without having WinAmp on my 
computer.  I definitely grant you that PLS is probably more universal than Silver Light.
