The NFB philosophy states that, with the proper training and a healthy
philosophical bent, blindness can be reduced to the level of a nuisance. If
synthetic vision can remove that nuisance, why not use it? I don't think
it's a sign of mental maladjustment to want that inconvenience removed from
our lives.

I believe that effective synthetic vision is a long way off and as we
progress toward that day, the nuisance of the adjustment to sight with side
effects will probably outweigh the nuisance of blindness. However, I firmly
believe that the lifestyle we as blind people live today will someday be
rendered obsolete by synthetic vision.

As blind people, we need not waste precious time and energy pissing and
moaning about some of the obstacles we can't change, but we also should not
bury our heads in the sand and pretend that our lives are on an absolute
plain of equality with our sighted peers. Synthetic vision could very likely
change that reality.
